Bisi Bele bhath

This recipe was there in my recipe Diary more than a year. For some reason never had all the ingredients to make it especially - Jaggery. So last Sunday , I saw Jaggery in my pantry left over from Pongal preparations. So there was nothing else to be made for breakfast , but only Bisi Bele bhath!



Preparation time: 10-15 mins

Cooking time : 10 mins

Ingredients : 

  • Rice( sona masoori ) - 1 cup
  • Tuar dal - 1/4 cup
  • Water - 400 ml
  • Chopped carrot - 1 cup
  • Beans - 1/2 cup
  • Curry leaves
  • Tamarind paste - 1 tspn
  • Jaggery - 1" small cube
  • Chilli powder - 1 tspn
  • Mustard seeds - 1/4 tspn
  • MTR Bisi bele bhath powder - 2 tspn
  • Salt -1 1/2 tspn
  • Oil - 2 tbspn

Steps :

  1. In a small pressure cooker ( 3 ltrs cooker ) add- oil , curry leaves , onion & mustard seeds. Then add tomato , carrots , beans , all masalas , tamarind paste , jaggery & water.
  2. Pressure cook it for 2 whistles on low flame.
Serve Bisi Bele bhath with khara boondi !
