Moong Dal Khichdi

This rice recipe is very handy when there are no veggies at home or running out of time or feeling low..






Preparation time: 5 mins

Cooking time : 10-15 mins  

Ingredients :

  • Sona masoori rice - 3/4th rice
  • Yellow moong dal - 1/4th cup
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tspn
  • Turmeric powder - 1 pinch
  • Chilli powder - 1/2 tspn
  • Asafoetida / hing powder -1/4th tspn
  • Salt - 1 tspn
  • Oil - 1 tbspn
  • Water - 500 ml                                                                                          

Steps :


  1. Wash rice & moong dal together and keep aside.
  2. Take a pressure cooker and add oil to it . Once the oil is hot add cumin seeds  and all the spices and immediately add water ( make sure the spices do not get over heated & burnt in oil).
  3. Then add rice and moong dal. And let it cook for 2 whistles on medium low flame.
  4. Once the pressure cooker is ready to open , open it and smash the hot Khichdi nicely with a spatula.
Khichdi is ready to be served with curd or pickle !

Yes its almost similar to pongal except it doesnt have - green chilli and pepper seeds
